It was a warm fall evening when I had the pleasure of meeting—and photographing promotional material for—the incredible musical duo, Paul and Kerena of Moeller Music Events.

We gathered at a vibrant outdoor location surrounded by water and the rich colors of changing foliage. As I began setting up my camera, the two musicians started warming up and playing together right there in the open air. Within moments, I felt chills.

Paul and Kerena have been making music together since 1997, and their musical connection is unmistakable. The way they play together is effortless—organic and completely in sync. Watching and listening to them felt like witnessing a natural conversation expressed through music.

At one point, I was so moved that I actually started to tear up. I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe it was the nostalgia—hearing memories of my childhood summers spent at a performing arts and music camp in the northern woods of Michigan. Or perhaps it was the powerful feeling of two different art forms—music and photography—coming together in that moment. Whatever the reason, I left feeling deeply inspired.

The experience stayed with me long after the shoot ended. In fact, it inspired me enough to want to write about it and share their incredible sound with the world.

Interview with Moeller Music Events:

1)    How long have you both been playing music individually and then together as a duo?

Paul has been playing the guitar since he was 12 years old and Kerena began playing the cello at age 10.  That would be about 43 years or so! We began playing together in a cello and Guitar duo in 1997.

2)    What areas of Chicagoland do you service for weddings or special events?

We play all of the best venues in the Chicagoland area, including Milwaukee and Indiana. We also have a special focus in the western suburbs of Chicago.

3)    For weddings, do you play during the ceremony only, reception only or both?

We typically are hired to play for the wedding ceremony or both the ceremony and cocktail hour. We have a vast repertoire that is perfect for creating the perfect mood in either setting.

4)    Where should we find samples of your work?  Or do you have any albums together?

The best place to hear our work is on our website

Chicagoweddingceremonymusic.Com

5)    What’s the best way to contact you for booking an event?

Through our website above.

6)    Most memorable moment while playing music together?

We played a Full concert of cello and guitar music in a concert hall located in an old nunnery in the south of Italy in a town called Lagonegro.

7)    What’s the strangest song you’ve ever been asked to play?

We have been asked to play several strange songs for weddings, and here are a few for your amusement:  The theme from back to the future, The gambler by Kenny Rodger’s, nothing else matters by Metallica, and even pump up the jam!

Here are some of the gems from our session together:
