One tip I discovered and would like to share with new parents is about the 5 S’s. It refers to a method that was developed by Dr. Harvey Karp in which he discusses in his book, “The Happiest Baby On The Block” that helps to soothe newborn babies. It involves Swaddling, Side lying/ stomach position, Shushing, Swinging and Sucking. These actions mimick the womb environment and help calm fussy newborns once they become earth side. I literally use one or all of these techniques in every newborn session I have in order to help keep baby calm and they really help make my job easier.
I’ve been dubbed the “baby whisperer” and clients remark all the time how surprised they are at how I can get baby to remain calm (most of the time) during the session. These tips are really my best trick for being able to pose them. I pass this knowledge onto all new parents in hopes of giving them some tools to deal with a fussy baby. Sometimes, trying these things may determine why baby is acting fussy and helps us adults feel a little more at ease.
You’re welcome! 🙂
